The divisive issue in this passage is that the Corinthians as per the instructions of Paul had not come with a clean heart to receive the body and blood of Christ. This is because there had been selfish desires in the hearts of some of the Corinthians to quench their thirst and satiate their hunger for food. Therefore, the bodily desires of some of the Corinthians had prevented them from considering the body and blood of Christ to be in the form of bread and wine. According to Paul, every Corinthian should have forgotten about their bodily desires like hunger so that they could receive the body and blood of Christ spiritually.
